ABOUT

Learn to knit from the very beginning in this relaxed two-week workshop. Designed with absolute beginners in mind, it’s perfect if you’ve never picked up a pair of knitting needles before, or if you learnt once upon a time but can’t quite remember how it all works.

Over the two weeks, you’ll learn the essential skills you need to begin knitting confidently and start your first project: a simple knitted neckerchief. We’ll also explore different types of yarn and needles, practise the basic stitches together and learn how to recognise and correct some common mistakes.

Week 1: We’ll begin by looking at yarn, knitting needles and how knitting is constructed. You’ll learn how to cast on and create the knit stitch, then begin knitting a small practice swatch. We’ll also introduce the purl stitch and explore how knit and purl stitches can be combined to create different fabrics.

Week 2: We’ll revisit the knit and purl stitches, learn how to cast off and look at how to unravel or correct your knitting when something goes wrong. You’ll then cast on your first project: a simple knitted neckerchief. The included pattern can be adapted to suit your own style and preferences as your confidence grows.

LEVEL Complete beginners. No previous knitting experience is needed. This workshop is also suitable for anyone who has tried knitting before but would like to start again from the basics.
