About
Bawn was established in 2020 Glasgow by Irish textile specialist Bevan O'Daly. Her background is in Fine Art and Textile Conservation.
Bawn was set up with a focus on bridging the gap between the growing sustainable textile supply chain and the customer - home sewers and small fashion brands.
Organic cotton, for example only accounts for 1% of cotton being produced around the world today. By sourcing textiles responsibly we hope we can promote a positive change and watch that percentage rise for our future.
MANIFESTO
Nature is our only home, and we are not caring for it in the way we should. Textiles play a significant role in all our lives, but they are also one of the leading global issues negatively impacting our ecological, cultural, social, and economic climate.
At Bawn, we don’t shy away from the harsh realities of the current textile industry. We recognise that both business and consumer attitudes need to change - to slow down global textile production and consumption and sustain a healthy supply chain for the future.
It is our core principal to guarantee responsibly sourced quality textiles for our customers. We look for organic and other sustainably produced textiles which are certified by leading organisations such as GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) for example. All our packaging is 100% recyclable and plastic-free. We strive to reduce our carbon footprint by working with suppliers as close to the UK as possible. While the industry is slow to change, we will continue to advocate for transparency and traceability in all our stock.
By incorporating these Earth-friendly practices, our choice of stock is limited due to what we can source in line with our guarantee. Bawn is constantly evolving to support sustainable ways of sourcing and trading textiles. We are committed to promoting change and promise to keep improving in all areas of the business.
